BFI Film Academy July Lab

July 17, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Developing Your Project and Telling your Own Authentic Stories

The next BFI Film Academy Lab of the 2023/24 season will be an honest insight into how to lead with your own ideas and voice as a director.

Director Myriam Raja will discuss her journey in the film industry from making shorts to directing high-end TV to working towards developing feature films as a filmmaker who is pushing boundaries through her authentic approach to storytelling on screen. You will learn about the routes you can take to develop your craft and how to build on your experience whilst maintaining your style as a director. This session is for aspiring filmmakers who are passionate to tell authentic stories and want advice on how to navigate their journey doing just that.

Myriam Raja

Myriam Raja graduated from the National Film & Television School in 2018 with her graduation short AZAAR, which was nominated for a BAFTA for Best British Short Film. After graduating from NFTS Myriam directed an episode of the Netflix show TOP BOY. The show was a great success and Myriam was brought back for the final season to direct the first four episodes. Myriam is currently finishing post-production on TOP BOY while also developing her debut feature with Film4, as well as a second feature project with David Yates’ production company, Wychwood Films, and the BBC.
