As part of our commitment to recruiting and promoting disabled talent in television, Channel 4 is launching the PARAS Production Training Scheme. Sixteen people will be given the opportunity to work for an independent production company during 2019-20.
About PARAS Production Training Scheme
This is a 12-month paid opportunity, working with an independent production company, which also includes industry training and support from ThinkBIGGER! This is an entry-level scheme aimed at people with no or limited industry experience.
This programme is aimed at disabled people, as disabled people are currently underrepresented in the media industry and this is something we want to change. You’re disabled under the Equality Act 2010 if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.
If successful, you’ll spend a week in TV Boot Camp to get things underway. Here, you’ll hear from graduates of the scheme and Commissioning Editors who’ll give you the lowdown on what it takes to succeed. Then your career in TV starts for real at your production company – but we’ll still see you once a month at Channel 4 for training to help you further your career.
Placements this year will begin on 23rd September 2019.
Roles
We have roles across companies that make sports, live and entertainment content, as well as placements in social media and graphic design teams.
We are recruiting for the following roles and you will be asked in your application which role you think your skills and experience make you most suited to:
Researcher – A good researcher watches a lot of television, is interested in people and can build good relationships. They have a keen eye for detail and are able to acquire an in depth knowledge of any subject they are tasked with. They are persuasive and demonstrate tenacity to get the job done.
Junior Production Coordinator – A good production co-ordinator is a team player who is responsible and able to work independently. They have a good eye for detail, strong IT skills and comfortable working with budgets. They can prioritise tasks and work well under pressure and manage deadlines.
Junior Social Media Producer – A good junior social media / digital producer loves communicating with other people in new and creative ways. They may be a talented content creator, or may enjoy the more analytical side, spotting trends and finding ways to boost social reach for maximum impact.
Junior Graphic Designer – A good junior graphic designer is highly visual and enjoys coming up with creative solutions to briefs. They have excellent IT skills across a range of software packages, are fast at learning new skills and relish training and development opportunities to expand learn new things.
Opportunities will be available across the UK, potential placements include London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff and Glasgow.
