Calling all creatives aged 18+ with a passion for scripted content and a desire to pursue a career in television.
Apply now for 4 weeks of FREE intensive scripted production training delivered by BAFTA winning MAMA Youth and Licklemor Productions, in association with BFA (Birmingham Film Academy) and Kudos Knight, the creative partnership between leading scripted producer Kudos and Peaky Blinders, SAS Rogue Heroes and This Town creator Steven Knight. Their award winning training can grant you instant industry access while teaching you how to excel in scripted production.
You will master the tools and techniques required to succeed in a ‘real life’ collaborative and fast paced environment. Their unique training model provides practical hands-on experience in scripted production while working within a professional setting. Participants will finish the training with a working knowledge of how to get a script to screen and also the required skills to apply for entry level employment in the industry.
Upon successful completion, trainees will become MAMA Youth Project Alumni and join their prestigious talent pool, providing benefits such as 6 months professional Talent Manager support, industry professional mentoring and exclusive access to apply for jobs with their industry partners, such as Banijay, Disney, Warner Bros Entertainment, ITV, BBC Studios, Sky, Fremantle Media, Gravity Media, Lime Pictures, Sister, ES Broadcast, Buzz16 and many more.
About The Training
The training is an intensive bootcamp where participants are assessed based on their work ethics and commitment. A unique aspect of their training model is that it puts participants into a ‘real-time’ work situation during which they work independently, as well as in a tightly knit team, to produce scripted content under supervision and guidance from experienced professionals at Licklemor Productions. After intensive training, trainees will be tasked to produce a short film written by Steven Knight, shot in and around Digbeth.

Candidates who are successful in completing the 4 weeks training programme will become a MAMA Youth Alumni. Being an alumnus means you will be part of their talent pool and have access to apply for jobs with their industry partners that are exclusively advertised to their talent pool on a daily basis. The training programme is built to kick start your career and open doors to what is a traditionally gated industry.
Please note that industry work opportunities may begin as soon as the training finishes so candidates should make sure they are available to take opportunities and build on their industry work experience.
The Skills You Will Gain:
- Scripted production basics focusing on production logistics such as paperwork, casting, location securing, set sourcing, working with talent.
- Trainees will be allocated to work with professionals from various departments such as camera, sound, art, hair and make up.
- Successful candidates will also gain production etiquette, terminology, fundamental work ethics, CV tailoring, interview techniques, career mentorship and peer networking.
Who is it for?
The training is open to all those aged 18+ from Birmingham and the West Midlands with a passion for scripted content and a desire to pursue a career in television. Upon enrolment, MAMA Youth will require successful applicants to provide ID and proof of address, such as a bank statement, a bill or a driving license. The training is based in Birmingham.
Applicants must not be in full time / part time education (this includes taking a gap year) or employment if accepted onto the training. They must have been living in the UK for a minimum of a year, have the right to live and work in the UK and have indefinite leave to remain, settled status or pre-settled status. Short term work visas, such as a graduate visa, will not be accepted due to the nature of their governing body requirements.
It is primarily aimed at individuals from under-represented or challenging backgrounds and those with limited educational or employment opportunities, including unemployed graduates. MAMA Youth Project is committed to providing a truly inclusive training and working environment.
Key Dates
Training Dates: 12th of August – 2nd of September in BOA Stage and Screen Production Academy & Digbeth Loc. Studios. The training lasts for 4 weeks and is full time, Mondays – Fridays. Trainees are required to attend every day and be fully available. Outside office hours may be required when filming, including weekends. MAMA Youth require flexibility and complete availability from participants.
Online information sessions on Zoom: During recruitment MAMA Youth’s team will run several online information sessions so that anyone who is interested in the programme can meet with a member of the team, learn more about the training, gain tips about the application process and ask any questions they may have. Session 1 Tuesday the 18th of June, from 4pm – 5pm. Session 2 Tuesday the 25th of June, from 4pm – 5pm. Session 3 Tuesday the 2nd of July, from 4pm – 5pm.
Application Deadline: Monday the 8th of July, 11.59pm.
Interview Dates: Interviews will run on Zoom from the 29th of July – 1st of August. Due to high numbers of applicants, interview slots are not flexible.
Notification Dates: MAMA Youth will be contacting shortlisted candidates for the interview stage between 22nd-26th of July, if you have not been contacted by the 29th of July it means you were not shortlisted for an interview on this occasion. Their team will send an email with sign posting opportunities as soon as they have the capacity to do so.
Cost and Financial Support
The training is free.
Travel and lunch expenses are covered throughout the duration of the training. Travel expenses will be capped at £50/week and lunch expenses capped at £35/week . Equipment will be provided throughout the duration of the training.
If you require additional financial support during the training, you may be eligible to apply for a TV diversity bursary via Screenskills.

MAMA Youth don’t require experience, as participants are thrown into the deep end under strict supervision. All they ask is that the person is completely dedicated and committed throughout the training programme.
