The BBC is inviting artists, designers and illustrators from the UK to show their love for the iconic show by creating one-of-a-kind static poster artwork for Peaky Blinders, inspired by its main characters.
The Opportunity
A minimum of 10 and up to 15 pieces of artwork will be selected by a panel from the BBC. The Selected Artists will:
- Potentially have their artwork showcased across key social and digital channels;
- Potentially be part of an OOH activation and wider marketing campaign;
- Receive £1,000 for each piece selected.
Non-selected artwork will potentially be showcased in a digital gallery with credit given on the BBC’s website. There is no purchase necessary to enter or be selected.
Things to Consider
Before creating your artwork, please consider the following:
- Art specifications:
- A mix of both landscape and portrait artwork will be selected, so feel free to submit your work in both formats. Either way, make sure it is in A4 proportion (aspect ratio 1:1.414).
- Please make sure to keep your artwork the highest resolution possible (minimum 300dpi), as the Selected Artwork will potentially be displayed on large billboards.
- The mood
- The general mood in your artwork should be powerful, emotional, regal, troubled.
- The editorial policy
- The BBC will be using your artwork for marketing purposes to promote the next series of Peaky Blinders to audiences in various public spaces off air, in the press and on BBC digital and social platforms – so the resulting imagery must be suitable for all audiences and meet regulatory requirements for use on these platforms (i.e. no explicit violence, sexualised imagery, prominent use of alcohol).
- The cast
- Artwork must feature one of the following character combinations:
- Tommy Shelby by himself,
- any other main character by themselves (e.g. Polly, Arthur, Ada, Lizzie, Michael, Linda),
- a group (2 or more) of any combination of characters.
- The BBC are looking for most submissions to feature Tommy Shelby by himself, but you are also encouraged to create artwork featuring other main characters, and groups of characters.
- Check out these character images for inspiration for your artwork. You’re welcome to use the images, but please interpret them in your own artistic style.
- Please make sure that all characters are recognisable and true to the show, and don’t include any characters who have died or left the series in Series 1-4.
- Artwork must feature one of the following character combinations:
- The style
- BBC is looking for a range of mediums, including pencil drawings, paintings, collages, oil pastels, digital illustrations. They are open to any style, from abstract to graphic to realist.

Creative Invite Guidelines
- Multiple submissions (up to 10) and artist teams are allowed.
- Please note, that during the Submission Period, submissions may be featured on Peaky Blinders‘ digital channels with credit given to the artist.
- Please retain your original artwork files in the highest quality possible (min. 300dpi. Minimum size (A4): 2480 x 3508 px.). The format should be portrait and/or landscape. Artwork must be submitted in JPEG or PNG max size 10MB.
- All submissions must be your own original work (meaning you are not allowed to use third party pre-existing copyright materials and/or stock imagery in your submission without owning the copyright to this material).
- You may depict the likenesses of the characters in Peaky Blinders and use the material provided as long as these are interpreted in your own artistic style. All rights in and to the characters and material provided are reserved by BBC.
- Any ownership in the work is subject to and restricted by the BBC’s underlying rights in the Peaky Blinders IP and artists may make only personal use (e.g. portfolio purposes, private social media channels) of the submissions without express written consent from the BBC – but only after the announcement of the Selected Artists; in no event, may an artist obtain a fee, royalty, advertising revenue, or any other payment in exchange for the submission.
- Selected Artists will have to sign a Copyright Assignment form which assigns all rights, title and interest in and to their work to BBC for global usage and in perpetuity.
- The Selected Artists may be required to make up to two rounds of minor edits on their work to fit production requirements. The Selected Submission may also be modified by BBCs’ agency to ensure its fit for distribution.
- Artists not selected retain ownership in the original portions of their work. However, by submitting you hereby grant BBC a worldwide, non-exclusive, limited, royalty-free license for three (3) months to use your submitted work across their social media channels and online platforms from Selected Artist Announcement. The BBC will credit all non-selected artists if their work is used but will not be liable to the artist for failure to do so.
