The intensive coaching was brilliant for answering all our questions and signposting areas for future development. We wouldn’t be here without Cinema For All’s knowledge and encouragement. Thank you’ – Social Features, Scotland

The coaching sessions will begin from 12 June 2019 for successful applicants and all coaching sessions and both screenings must have been completed by 30 August 2019.

New Creatives Programme

Apply for the New Creatives Programme – Deadline July 16th

By Funding, Training No Comments

New Creatives Programme

The New Creatives programme for young emerging talent is coming to the Midlands! Rural Media are currently looking for emerging talent between the ages of 16-30 with strong creative ideas and drive. The programme will help develop your original concept into a professional short film, audio or interactive media work. You will also receive the skill training needed to bring your idea to life and showcase it to audiences.

Ideas can come from many artistic disciplines. For example – dancers, actors, performers, musicians, writers, film makers, comedians, visual artists, animators, poets, storytellers and games designers. You might not consider yourself an artist, but if you are passionate about your creative idea and have something to say, you should get involved. Each commissioned artist will work directly with a professional production company. The company will also manage the budget (up to £5k for film and £3k for audio) and mentor you through the process.

What They Want

From the serious to the comedic, the absurd to the challenging, the provocative to the abstract, Rural Media are looking for ideas that push the boundaries on what constitutes art. It should make people think, and encourage new ways of understanding ourselves and the world in which we live. So they want to unearth diverse, new talent and commission ideas that we may not have seen represented before on screen, on-air and online.

New Creatives content may be selected for an exciting new programming strand: BBC Introducing Arts. It showcases and introduces new artistic talent from the UK across BBC platforms – on BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, BBC television and radio. Rural Media will look to identify the best platform for each idea.

This is an unprecedented opportunity for creatives to experiment and connect with BBC audiences and beyond. However they cannot accept any ideas that are journalism or current affairs documentaries.

To Apply

Please read the full Creative Briefs for film for audio for interactive to find out what Rural Media is looking for in your pitch.

new ideas Fund

Creative England New Ideas Fund for Businesses

By Funding No Comments

Creative England’s New Ideas Fund offers small seed funding to sole traders, start-ups and small businesses for their creative business ideas. Their previous investment schemes have been aimed at established companies. However, this New Ideas Fund targets untapped talent and new ideas.

What is the fund?

Through BFI-Lottery funding, Creative England can offer investments between £500 and £15,000 for emerging and new screen based storytelling business proposals. Newer companies and proposals looking for lower amounts are likely to receive grants. Creative England is likely to offer loans to higher-value proposals and more established companies. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Who is it for?

The New Ideas Fund is for screen based storytelling businesses in the English regions. Your idea must be for a screen based industry. That is, film, television, animation, games, immersive media or tech that supports these industries.

Who is not eligible?

The New Ideas Fund is not for companies working in corporate video or advertising, e-learning or training (unless you want to start a screen based storytelling arm). It is also not for charities, non-profits or CICs (unless you want to set up a corporate arm relevant to the screen based industries).

For more information on who can and cannot apply, please read Creative England’s Guidelines.

What can I use the money for?

The New Ideas Fund is to help you with business costs, improve your offering and diversifying revenue streams.

It can be used for seed funding, set up costs, hiring office space (e.g. for a group of producers to work together), conducting market research, diversifying your current business into the screen based industries, R&D, testing out new and exciting elements of immersive media to help your business, employing someone new into your team, building IP, equipment etc.

But you cannot use the fund for: just creating content, e.g. short films, feature films, slate funding, talent development, production costs. We need proposals to focus on developing a sustainable business rather than a specific project.

For more information on what you can and cannot apply for, and where to go for alternative funding, please read our Guidelines.

When is the deadline?

Applications for the New Ideas Fund are accepted on a rolling basis but we’d encourage you apply soon.

Bumble's Female Film Force

Bumble’s Female Film Force 2019 – Apply by March 20

By Funding, Uncategorized No Comments

Last year, Bumble’s Female Film Force was an unprecedented success, Bumble has decided to do it again in 2019 — but they’re taking it international.

Bumble is expanding their initiative, which offers grants to aspiring women filmmakers, to include France and Germany. It will again include the UK, where the inaugural competition yielded 1,100 pitches. Here is what they have to say:

About Bumble’s Female Film Force 2019

Once again, we’ll give five female teams (writers, directors, or producers) £20,000 each to make a short film. They must have a theme rooted in Bumble’s values of kindness, respect, and equality.

So, why are we doing this? Look no further than this past awards season — or, indeed, any in the film industry’s history. In February, the Academy Awards bestowed Oscars overwhelmingly to men (73% of winners). Across the Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes, every Best Director nominee was a man.

At this year’s BAFTAs, only a third of the winners were women (34%). In France, only one woman, Jane Campion, has ever received the Palme d’Or at the Festival de Cannes. That is during its 70-year history. And in Germany, only about 15% of films shown in cinemas are directed by women. In the last 17 years of the Berlinale, only four women have won the Golden Bear.

We want to do our part to help redress this gender imbalance.

How to Apply to Bumble’s Female Film Force

To enter, women across the UK, Ireland, France and Germany can download Bumble, head into Bumble Bizz, our professional networking mode, and match with the Female Film Force application card. We encourage anyone who identifies as a woman to apply.

Applications for Round One of Bumble’s Female Film Force will close on March 20th. We will then announce a shortlist, and filmmakers will need to submit further materials to support their ideas.

Then, our team will ask ten teams to pitch to our industry panel in London in May.

Bumble will announce the five chosen teams in June, with films delivered in January 2020. We will showcase those films at an exclusive industry event.

Over the production period, our five filmmakers will also receive guidance from leading industry experts as part of a bespoke mentorship programme created in partnership with WDW Entertainment and Female Film Force Producer Elisabeth Hopper.

A panel of industry experts from France, Germany and the UK will judge the submissions to find our teams of women ready to bring their stories to life.
