Midlands Movies, a Leicester-based film organisation has opened submissions to local filmmakers to put forward their productions for the 3rd annual Midlands Movies Awards. With the Academy Awards just a week before, these Midlands ‘Oscars’ will be a platform to honour the local films released in the past 12 months – whether they be shorts, features, animation, documentaries or any other type of film. Midlands Movies is looking to reward the region’s talent across 16 categories including Best Picture, Best Actor/Actress, Best Director and many more. The winners will be chosen by an experienced jury panel made up of industry experts and announced at a gala evening at the prestigious Hansom Hall in Leicester on Saturday, March 2nd, 2019.

The event will once again be hosted by local BBC presenter Ed Stagg. With a long background in broadcasting and event production, Ed can regularly be heard on both BBC Radio Leicester and BBC Radio Derby. He is also the director of Well-Bred Productions. The Midlands Movies Award are funded, once again, by a successful crowd-funding campaign but could not happen without the assistance of their extra special supporters as well as their official partners: Crosscut Media and Firebug Bar Leicester.
