With the late University of Birmingham professor John Hull, a man who kept audio-cassette diary entries of his experiences turning blind in 1983, acting as the film’s case study and guide. The film provides an intimate and vivid insight into something often hard to understand.
Centred on University of Birmingham theology Professor John Hull, Notes on Blindness was created using a mixture of re-enactment material, archive, and interviews. Some of which was shot on the historic University campus in Edgbaston.
Since premiering at Sundance in January 2016, the film has played at over 40 international festivals. It won the Best Documentary at the British Independent Film Awards and was nominated for 3 BAFTAs (including Best Documentary and Outstanding British Film.
