DESCRIPTION:Create Central is hosting an online briefing to hear more about our upcoming Skills Accelerator programme of activities. \nCome and find out why we were selected as one of six UK BFI Skills Clusters\, and how this work combines with our wider activity most recently announced at the Create Central Shape the Future launch. \nThis briefing is an opportunity for you to hear an overview of our plans around the Skills Accelerator training programmes\, our commitment to engaging talent from underrepresented backgrounds and how we are building on industry partnerships. \nLearn more about how these activities will connect local skills bases\, support talent across the West Midlands\, and create opportunities to engage with Create Central further. We will be holding two online briefings on: \nMonday 26 June at 3pm & Wednesday 28 June at 1pm \nThe briefings will be approximately 60mins and are the same\, so you only need to register for one. There will be a presentation as part of these online briefings and an opportunity to ask questions afterwards. \nPlease note\, this is an introductory briefing and will give an overview of the upcoming programme of activities. There will be further detailed briefings in July about how to tender to deliver any of the training programmes outlined. \nTO REGISTER\nSTEP ONE\nPlease complete the monitoring form and you will be given a password to register for the briefing. \nCompletion and submission of the monitoring form is a requirement for taking part in any of our activities*. \nSTEP TWO\nEmail the password and the date you would like to attend to skills@createcentraluk.com and we will send details and a link for the session closer to the date. The funding focusses on establishing localised support for skills development and training\, with a clear aim to create new opportunities for people from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue careers in the sector – it is all about increasing equity\, diversity and inclusion in the film and TV industry. \nWe know it can feel like an irritation to be asked about private information\, but it’s really important for us to gather this data so we can start to see the impact of the funding we have been given and know that we are really reaching the people this funding is designed to support. DESCRIPTION:Midlands filmmaker Shona Auerbach presents her new feature Rudy\, a poignant insight into love\, loss and moving on. Stuck as a proxy parent to her younger siblings and dealing with a recent loss\, the titular Rudy feels increasingly pushed out when her home gets opened up to a paying guest. Through a newfound friendship with a boy from Coventry\, she discovers fun\, freedom and autonomy\, but is it at the sacrifice of unspoken family wounds? \nScreening in 24th and 28th June. The screening on Saturday 24th June will be followed by a live onstage Q&A with director Shona Auerbach. \n\n\n\n\n\nDuration includes trailers and adverts. SUMMARY:Relationships on Film: Healthy Relationships
DESCRIPTION:This course is part of Relationships on Film\, a series of short learning experiences to support sex and relationships education.  \nWith intimate relationships coming in all different shapes and sizes\, how can we teach young people to recognise the difference between healthy and harmful relationship behaviours?   \nDesigned in partnership with the leading sexual health and wellbeing charity\, Brook\, this course provides practical and engaging film-based teaching ideas to support educators of 11–16-year-olds in exploring the traits of healthy relationships. Through our curated selection of film content\, you’ll learn how to discuss the sex and relationships issues facing young people today using a medium that is both familiar and relatable.    \nAlong the way\, you’ll gain access to a range of materials to enhance your teaching including ready-to-use lessons and resources\, professional short and youth-made films\, as well as feature-length content available to stream on Into Film+.   \nAs part of this course series\, we are also offering a free live webinar\, focused on teaching about sex and relationships in a digital context. In addition to accessing exclusive content\, not available as part of the courses\, this session is a chance to ask questions to course experts and share ideas with educators across the UK.     \nThe webinar will be held on:   \nThursday 22 June 2023 at 4:00pm – Relationships on Film: Let’s Get Digital \nA Welsh language webinar to accompany this course series will also run on Tuesday 4 July 2023. DESCRIPTION:BFI Film Academy Labs are monthly events for young filmmakers who are trying to get their start in the screen industries.\nThis second BFI Film Academy Lab of the 2023/24 season will give you a range of perspectives on the benefits\, challenges and experience of being a freelancer in the screen industries and/or running a production company. \nDanielle Fahiya will chair a panel of filmmakers with a huge amount of experience in front of and behind the camera\, across fiction\, documentary\, animation\, live streaming and more. They’ll be discussing when is the right time to take these steps in your career\, finding and working with clients\, the rules and practices you’ll need to know\, and managing budgets\, billing and schedules. DESCRIPTION:Film: Handsworth Songs \n Duration: 180 mins \nDirector: John Akomfrah \nYear of Release: 1986 \nMidlands Art Centre are delighted to host this special event which documents the journey to make Black Audio Film Collective’s 1986 film more – and differently – accessible. \nMade for Channel 4 series Britain: The Lie Of The Land by multimedia group Black Audio Film Collective\, acclaimed essay film Handsworth Songs was released just one year after the riots in Handsworth\, Birmingham and Tottenham. Interweaving archival photographs\, newsreel clips and home movie footage\, John Akomfrah’s award-winning film takes as its point of departure these violent events and the inability of the British media to go beyond its concern with demonising the rioters and their motives. \nslow emergency siren\, ongoing: Accessing Handsworth Songs developed as a year-long collaboration\, co-led by LUX and Sarah Hayden\, as part of a research project called Voices in the Gallery. \nElaine Lillian Joseph was commissioned to write and perform augmented audio description for the film and invited the Care-fuffle Working Group to develop creative captions. Audio-description and caption-users advised on the translations of sounds and images as they evolved. \nHannah Kemp-Welch worked with the project participants over a year to make [voices surface]: an audio-documentary about Accessing Handsworth Songs.
