DESCRIPTION:Presented in partnership with Falasteen on Film who specialise in showing Palestinian films highlighting the conflict in Gaza. \nMaqloubeh\, one of three short films on the night\, follows the story of four roommates making maqloubeh\, the classic Palestinian rice\, meat and vegetable dish\, and debating what the dish is or isn’t. Is lamb the traditional hero item or chicken? It’s a cosy\, homely movie that takes a dramatic turn. \nThey will be serving both meat and veg maqloubeh on the day\, with the ceremonial flipping of the upside down dish and grand reveal being a predicted highlight (choose your meat or vegetarian option when booking your tickets). \nThey are also fundraising for registered charity Rivers of Mercy – please find out how you can support when booking your ticket. \nWhat to expect: \n🚪Doors open 6:30pm \n🧆 Food served: A traditional Maqloubeh. \n🎥 Films start 7.30pm \nSome other important stuff:\nThe venue is wheelchair accessible. DESCRIPTION:Join Stirchley Film and Food Fest as they celebrate the best local filmmakers in Brum\, screening their short films with Brum Brew Co. beers and baked goods from Levain and Cherry Bakery. \nThis special pop-up event closes the film and food festival with a pick-and-mix experience of films drinks and snacks. \nAbout the films: \n\nBoxer Short Films\, purveyors of the best in worldwide animation\, present their pick of mouth-watering animated shorts.\n‘Rushed’ (directed by local filmmaker Nadine O’Mahony) is the story of a chance encounter between a black woman and a South Asian man in Birmingham forces them to confront life changing events they are desperately trying to escape. Nadine is a writer/director of Irish and Jamaican heritage who creates character-based stories with striking visuals. Her BFI funded short Rushed premiered at the BAFTA qualifying Flatpack Film Festival and won Best Breakout film at the Windrush Caribbean Film Festival. In her spare time\, she is head programmer for Screen B14 a non-profit\, community cinema and film collective and co-hosts The Brum Picture Show a digital radio show and podcast with an irreverent take on film news and reviews on Brum Radio.\n‘A Dumpling Story’\, Directed by Carl Woods; a MADEBYBRUM production. Step into Blowwater Cafe in Kings Heath\, Birmingham\, and take a journey across memory and food with Sabrina\, a creative from Hong Kong who finds community and friendship in a new city.\n\nAbout the food: \nKeeping the King’s Heath connection\, and welcoming them ahead of their new opening in Stirchley\, they have the battle of the bakeries! Levain and Cherry Bakery will provide snack boxes stuffed with the best fresh bakes\, and Aphra Bakes will offer cake options to slice on the night! 🥐🥖🥨 \nTo keep you refreshed\, Brum Brew Co. will be offering a complimentary drink on with your ticket\, and the bar will be open for the duration of the event. 🍺🍻🍷🥤 \nWhat to expect: \n🚪 Doors open 6:30pm \n🥂 Welcome drinks from Brum Brew Co. : 6:30 – 7pm \n🧆 Food served: A snack box jam-packed with baked goodies from Levain and Cherry \n🎥 Film starts 7.30pm \n~ Between the films they will host a casual discussion and Q and A with the local filmmakers ~ \nSome other important stuff:\nAll films will have subtitles where possible.\nThe venue is wheelchair accessible.
