DESCRIPTION:Join BFI Network Midlands with filmmaker Cassiah Joski-Jethi for a series of workshops on directing a short film. \nThese sessions will go through the process of creating a short film\, from conceiving an idea to the practical aspects of development\, funding\, pre-production\, production\, post-production and distribution. \nThe Facilitator\nEver since a young age\, Cassiah knew that she would be a writer and director\, unable to escape from imagining stories and films in her head. \nAfter graduating from the University of Birmingham in July 2014 with a First Class Honours degree in BA Drama and Theatre Arts\, Cassiah began her career working for writer/director/producer Gurinder Chadha OBE after a chance meeting on a train. \nCassiah is now an award-winning writer and director for stage and screen represented by Independent\, with her films funded by the BBC and BFI. Cassiah is also a BAFTA Connects member\, and has been a BBC New Creative (2020) and BFI Network X BAFTA Crew member (2018-2021). \nDates and time\nThe three sessions in the series will take place between Monday 2nd October – Wednesday 4th October. \nWorkshops will be 2.5 hours long and will take place on Zoom. DESCRIPTION:We are very excited to announce our monthly Thursday Film Night residency at the Cuban Embassy (The Bulls Head)\, 23 St Mary’s Row\, Moseley\, B13 8HW. This is an amazing opportunity for us to build a regular audience with exclusive film screenings that can’t be found anywhere else! There is loads of potential for us to contribute to Kings Heath\, Moseley and the wider Birmingham film scene – bringing the best of global cinema to your front door.***\nOur next night will be a screening of Pearl (15) (7pm doors and 7.30pm start time). The bar and kitchen will be open: with 2 for 1 on selected cocktails throughout the film. Standard tickets will be a pay as you can with £4 online and £5 on the door and we also accept CEA cards with one full-paying standard ticket. As always\, our films will be played with subtitles. \nPlease note: Pearl is rated 15 and nobody under the age of 15 will be admitted. Tickets will not be refunded in this instance. Due to being in the upstairs function room\, the venue is also not wheelchair accessible.\n***\nScreen B14 is Your Community Cinema and we want our events to be a place for connection\, conversation and inspiration. We want to encourage an exploration of all things film and support lots of local filmmakers in the process.

Reuniting the film’s co-writer and director Philip Barantini alongside many of the original cast\, the series picks up six months after the end of the film. DESCRIPTION:Film London Labs: The Production Finance Sessions is for all the producers in our network. If you’re working on or towards financing a first or second feature\, this Lab is for you. Writers and directors interested in learning about the business side of the industry are also very welcome! \nThis intensive\, week-long online lab is geared towards arming you and your team with everything you need to know about pitching a finance-ready project\, enabling you to make and defend smart\, creative choices and ground your plans in reality. \nThis Lab is inspired by our years of experience preparing producers for the Production Finance Market’s New Talent strand\, and filmmakers selected for this year’s market will also be in attendance. But you don’t have to be coming to market to benefit from the training. The sessions will be just as useful for those who intend to seek finance through other means\, who intend to apply to the market next year\, or who’d just like to deepen their understanding of film finance. \nOver six online sessions across the week\, we will cover: \n\nthe state of the independent market\nhow to put together a realistic finance plan\nunderstanding recoupment\ncommissioners illuminating their process\nthe importance of clarity around how you describe your project and how visual materials can support your pitch\n\nConfirmed speakers so far include \n\nVicki Brown\, Senior Exec\, Sales & Distribution\, BFI\nGabrielle Stewart\, HanWay Films\nAkua Gyamfi\, The British Blacklist\nGeorgia Goggin\, Producer\, Pretty Red Dress\nVirginia Gilbert\, Director & Writer\, Reawakening\nBarry Castagnola\, Producer\, Reawakening\nDelphine Lievens\, Distribution Consultant & Box Office Analyst\nNatasha Dack\, Tigerlily Productions\n\nMore speakers to be announced in the coming weeks. Last year’s Production Finance Lab included sessions with Geraldine Atlee\, Head of Legal & Business Affairs\, BBC Films\, Ameenah Ayub Allen\, Producer (Rocks\, Ali & Ava); Amy Lotherington\, Development Executive\, Original Film\, Sky; and many more. \nFORMAT \nMonday 18 September – Friday 22 September. \nThe week will comprise of approx. two hours of talks and other sessions each day. Session times will vary due to the international bases of our guest speakers but are likely to be in the early afternoon. We aim to publish the full timetable at least a week before the event starts. \nHOW TO TAKE PART \nPlease note that no scripts are to be submitted. \nSpace is operated on a first come first served basis.
