SUMMARY:BFI NETWORK New Directors Series
DESCRIPTION:Join BFI Network Midlands with filmmaker Cassiah Joski-Jethi for a series of workshops on directing a short film. \nThese sessions will go through the process of creating a short film\, from conceiving an idea to the practical aspects of development\, funding\, pre-production\, production\, post-production and distribution. \nThe Facilitator\nEver since a young age\, Cassiah knew that she would be a writer and director\, unable to escape from imagining stories and films in her head. \nAfter graduating from the University of Birmingham in July 2014 with a First Class Honours degree in BA Drama and Theatre Arts\, Cassiah began her career working for writer/director/producer Gurinder Chadha OBE after a chance meeting on a train. \nCassiah is now an award-winning writer and director for stage and screen represented by Independent\, with her films funded by the BBC and BFI. Cassiah is also a BAFTA Connects member\, and has been a BBC New Creative (2020) and BFI Network X BAFTA Crew member (2018-2021). \nDates and time\nThe three sessions in the series will take place between Monday 2nd October – Wednesday 4th October. \nWorkshops will be 2.5 hours long and will take place on Zoom. Each session will have one comfort break. \n*Participants are expected to attend all sessions. \n\nMon 2nd October 18:00 – 20:30 – Idea to Script\, Script Development\, Funding & Directorial Vision.\nTue 3rd October 18:00 – 20:30 – Applications\, Pre-Production\, Casting & Production.\nWed 4th October 18:00 – 20:30 – Post-Production\, Festivals\, Distribution & Career Development.\n\nWhen booking you will only be able to select the starting date of the programme but please note that you will be booked on to all sessions of the series. \nWho is this series for?\nIdeal participants will have experience of directing at least one short film or have directed at least one staged play and be looking to direct more short film projects in the future. \nPlease note this series is for Midlands based directors and you will be required to provide your postcode at sign up.

DESCRIPTION:Arts Council England gives funding to support creativity and culture across England. \nNational Lottery Project Grants  is a fund for creative individuals and organisations in England who want funding for a project. It is open to everyone and you can apply at any time. SUMMARY:Relationships on Film: Healthy Relationships
DESCRIPTION:This course is part of Relationships on Film\, a series of short learning experiences to support sex and relationships education.  \nWith intimate relationships coming in all different shapes and sizes\, how can we teach young people to recognise the difference between healthy and harmful relationship behaviours?   \nDesigned in partnership with the leading sexual health and wellbeing charity\, Brook\, this course provides practical and engaging film-based teaching ideas to support educators of 11–16-year-olds in exploring the traits of healthy relationships. Through our curated selection of film content\, you’ll learn how to discuss the sex and relationships issues facing young people today using a medium that is both familiar and relatable.    \nAlong the way\, you’ll gain access to a range of materials to enhance your teaching including ready-to-use lessons and resources\, professional short and youth-made films\, as well as feature-length content available to stream on Into Film+.   \nAs part of this course series\, we are also offering a free live webinar\, focused on teaching about sex and relationships in a digital context. DESCRIPTION:BFI Film Academy Labs are monthly events for young filmmakers who are trying to get their start in the screen industries.\nThis second BFI Film Academy Lab of the 2023/24 season will give you a range of perspectives on the benefits\, challenges and experience of being a freelancer in the screen industries and/or running a production company. \nDanielle Fahiya will chair a panel of filmmakers with a huge amount of experience in front of and behind the camera\, across fiction\, documentary\, animation\, live streaming and more. They’ll be discussing when is the right time to take these steps in your career\, finding and working with clients\, the rules and practices you’ll need to know\, and managing budgets\, billing and schedules. We’d also like to hear from you: questions can be emailed in advance to filmacademy@chapter.org or asked on the night using the Zoom Q&A feature. \nThis Business of Film Lab is delivered by Chapter in Wales. \n\n\n\n\nHost:\nDanielle Fahiya is an actor\, writer and presenter from Cardiff. She is a frequent host for BBC Wales\, BAFTA Cymru and more\, and her podcast series Mattan: Injustice Of A Hanged Man for BBC Sounds was widely acclaimed on its release last year. \nPanel:\nDani Abram is a freelance animator working in feature films\, TV and AAA games. Harris is the Managing Director at Focus Shift Films and Commercial Director at EatSleep Media.
