DESCRIPTION:Welcome to BFI NETWORK Shorts School! A four day Lab dedicated to short filmmaking. \nOver the course of the week\, Shorts School participants will hear insights from BFI NETWORK-funded filmmakers and meet other creatives. Whether you’re working towards your first short or sixth\, Shorts School is for emerging writers\, directors & producers to explore case studies\, creative process\, navigating the industry with your short work. \nThere will be Q&A’s\, roundtables\, the chance to view short work that’s come through the Short Film Fund\, as well as a networking session to meet peers and potential collaborators. \nGuest speakers include: \n\nDarryl Foster\, writer & director (Hard to Reach)\nNatasha Tonkin\, writer & director (Darwin Story)\nTracey Lopes\, writer & director (The Girls’ Room)\nAjuan Issac-George\, writer & director (Snow Falls in the Summer)\n\nAdditional speaker to be confirmed. \nDates: \n21st – 24th August 2023\, from 1pm each day. \nFREE TO ATTEND! \nNB: We recommend attending all sessions where possible\, sessions will be recorded for those who sign up. (Dubbed)\n\n\n\nScreening At Birmingham Botanical Gardens \nFrom the legendary Studio Ghibli\, creators of Spirited Away and Ponyo\, and Academy Award®-winning director Hayao Miya \nOutdoor cinema returns to Birmingham Botanical Gardens this August Bank Holiday\, and we’re welcoming all manner of spirits for our Sunday night screening of My Neighbour Totoro. \nHayao Miyazaki’s classic anime follows two young sisters as they befriend magical creatures residing in a nearby forest. Come along and watch this gorgeous film under the stars\, surrounded by nature – keeping your eyes peeled for sprites of course. \nCosplay of your favourite Studio Ghibli character is welcome (but not compulsory) with a beautiful bonsai tree available for our favourite on the night. \nStirchley’s Birmingham Brewing Company will be running a pop-up bar featuring their range of brilliant Brummie beers on the night\, we’ll have street food\, and one or two other surprises in store. So\, what are you waiting for? All aboard the catbus! \nKeep scrolling for all the event info in our FAQs below\, and please note seating is not provided so do bring a blanket or chair. \nThis screening is part of a bank holiday double bill in partnership with Birmingham Botanical Gardens and The Mockingbird Cinema\, with Predator screening on Saturday 26th August. \nzaki\, comes a classic tale of magic and adventure for the whole family. \nWhen Satsuki and her sister Mei move with their father to a new home in the countryside\, they find country life is not as simple as it seems. They soon discover that the house and nearby woods are full of strange and delightful creatures\, including a gigantic but gentle forest spirit called Totoro\, who can only be seen by children. Totoro and his friends introduce the girls to a series of adventures\, including a ride aboard the extraordinary Cat Bus\, in this all-ages animated masterpiece.
