SUMMARY:Going Freelance / Setting Up Your Production Company
DESCRIPTION:BFI Film Academy Labs are monthly events for young filmmakers who are trying to get their start in the screen industries.\nThis second BFI Film Academy Lab of the 2023/24 season will give you a range of perspectives on the benefits\, challenges and experience of being a freelancer in the screen industries and/or running a production company. \nDanielle Fahiya will chair a panel of filmmakers with a huge amount of experience in front of and behind the camera\, across fiction\, documentary\, animation\, live streaming and more. They’ll be discussing when is the right time to take these steps in your career\, finding and working with clients\, the rules and practices you’ll need to know\, and managing budgets\, billing and schedules. We’d also like to hear from you: questions can be emailed in advance to filmacademy@chapter.org or asked on the night using the Zoom Q&A feature. \nThis Business of Film Lab is delivered by Chapter in Wales. \n\n\n\n\nHost:\nDanielle Fahiya is an actor\, writer and presenter from Cardiff. She is a frequent host for BBC Wales\, BAFTA Cymru and more\, and her podcast series Mattan: Injustice Of A Hanged Man for BBC Sounds was widely acclaimed on its release last year. \nPanel:\nDani Abram is a freelance animator working in feature films\, TV and AAA games. She has worked for Aardman Animation (for Star Wars: Visions)\, Cartoon Saloon and many more\, and is also the host of the Retakes podcast for freelance animators. \nToby Cameron is a director\, producer and founder of On Par Productions\, a Cardiff-based company working across film\, TV & commercials. On Par’s film Louder Is Not Always Clearer was recently nominated for Best Short at the BAFTA Cymru awards and their most recent documentary Born Deaf Raised Hearing\, was watched by 1.4 million people on BBC 1. \nDaniel J. Harris is the Managing Director at Focus Shift Films and Commercial Director at EatSleep Media.
