Directed by Colm McCarthy, who had previously helmed episodes of Peaky Blinders, Birmingham shot blockbuster film, TGWATG was shot in Birmingham and Dudley. It stirred up attention as it did so, with dramatic apocalyptic location design and locals participating as extras and bit-parts. The film went on to get writer Mike Carey nominated for a BAFTA as his debut, and won the producer Camille Gatin a British Independent Film Award as Breakthrough Producer.
Filmed in and around Birmingham, portions of the city centre including Church Street and Colmore Row were transformed into The Girl with All the Gift’s dystopian London.
