Channel 4’s highly successful Production Training Scheme will be back in 2017!

Opportunities will be available at a variety of television productions companies working across our Drama, Factual and Comedy content. We offer paid 12 month contracts alongside monthly training delivered by ThinkBigger delivered at Channel 4 HQ, to give you an amazing and rounded foot in the door of the TV production sector.

The scheme is particularly aimed at people with disabilities, from BAME communities or disadvantaged backgrounds – because these groups are currently underrepresented in the television industry, which is something we want to change.

What’s on offer?

A 12 month contract at an independent TV production company that makes content for Channel 4. Placements will be on offer both in London and in the
Nations and Regions, in cities including Birmingham, Bristol, Belfast and Glasgow.

What roles are on offer?

There are two roles available on this scheme, Researcher and Production Coordinator.

A researcher helps to underpin a television programme with the best information, contributors and editorial support they can find. They work on everything from generating ideas for programmes to casting for programmes in a shopping mall.

A coordinator helps the Production Manager with the smooth running of the production from organising the early morning taxis to set to preparing the post production paperwork that is delivered to the broadcaster.

Who can apply?

Anyone! This programme is open to all, there are no age limitations and you do not need a degree qualification. However this in an entry-level opportunity, so if you already have experience of working at TV production company (for an extended period of time) then this may not be right for you.

Do I get paid?

Of course! The salary is £20,000.

What does the training involve?

We kick-off with a one-week bootcamp which gets you set up for the industry — you will meet former PTSers and hear straight from Commissioning Editors what you need to succeed in the industry. After that, there is monthly training in everything you will need to learn about the industry from how to find the best contributors to the nuts and bolts of surviving as a freelancer. We even take you to the biggest TV jamboree of them all — the Edinburgh International Television Festival!

When does it start?

The programme begins with a week-long residential boot camp of training, beginning on 18th September 2017, so you must be available to start on this date. After this you will join your independent production company and begin your contract.

What happens afterwards?

We can’t guarantee you will get a job, but we have an excellent track record in preparing people for the industry and this will give you great contacts for the
future.
