Posted on 23 April 2012

A great opportunity for new entrants, aged 18-25, to work with experienced professionals to begin a career in documentary production.

Working in partnership with The Grierson Trust, First Light is offering free places on a new Second Light training Lab which will concentrate on documentary filmmaking.

This is a great opportunity for new entrants, aged 18-25, to work with experienced professionals to begin a career in documentary production.

The Grierson Trust and First Light are looking to nurture enthusiastic, committed young people with a fresh take on documentary filmmaking and factual content, who have stories they want to tell that are not currently not being reflected on the screen.

Participants will get access to some of the UK’s leading documentary filmmakers. As part of the programme they will go to the Sheffield Doc/Fest in June, to gain an overview of the industry, go to screenings, network and attend events. Successful applicants will be further supported to maximise their potential through mentoring.

The Lab will ensure that participants learn how to turn their documentary ideas to pitches; get a comprehensive introduction to the genre focusing on story, script, structure, production and exhibition, as well as gain information, advice and careers guidance for those important next steps following the Lab.

The Lab will be held in Birmingham for 3 consecutive days from Monday 28th – Wednesday 30th May 2012
