Maverick have produced a series of eleven films showcasing outdoor dance. Choreographed by Shaun Parker, Spill – a playground of dance has been produced in conjunction with Birmingham’s DanceXchange and has been chosen to be broadcast on The Space – a new international digital platform created by Arts Council England in partnership with the BBC.
The films are part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, the largest cultural celebration in the history of the modern Olympic and Paralympic Movements. Comprised of ten short episodes and a 30 minute film, Spill combines quirky, dynamic dance with high energy street gymnastics using children’s playground equipment as the set.
Spill is now available to view on The Space, which aims to bring innovative digital interpretations of different art forms to an international audience. This new on-demand digital arts service is available via the internet, smartphones, tablets and connected TV on Freeview and Freeview HD, and is enabling people from all over the world to access and experience the biggest Summer of arts the UK has ever seen – for free.
The films are complimented on The Space website with four short films with DanceXchange’s Artistic Director David Massingham, Choreographer Shaun Parker, Assistant Choreographer Corey Baker as well as the dancers. These short films provide insight into the artistic vision, ambition and actuality of Spill.
