ROYAL TELEVISION SOCIETY OPENS ENTRIES FOR TELEVISION JOURNALISM AWARDS 2018

The Royal Television Society (RTS), Britain’s leading forum for television and related media, has launched the RTS Television Journalism Awards 2018. The awards, for both news and current affairs, seek to recognise creative and excellent journalism by organisations whose broadcasts are transmitted on a UK based platform or who create online video content from a UK production base.

The 2018 ceremony will see awards given out in 19 categories including: News Coverage – Home; News Coverage – International; Daily News Programme of the Year; News Channel of the Year; Breaking News; News Technology; Current Affairs – Home; Current Affairs – International; Nations and Regions News; Nations and Regions Current Affairs; Nations and Regions Presenter of the Year (formally Regional Presenter of the Year); Scoop of the Year; Specialist Journalist of the Year; Young Talent of the Year; Television Journalist of the Year; Camera Operator of the Year; Network Presenter of the Year; The Independent Award and Interview of the Year. In addition, the Judges’ Award and the new Outstanding Contribution Award will be handed out at the discretion of the jury.

This year Sue Inglish, former Head of Political Programmes at the BBC, will take over from Stewart Purvis as Chair of the awards. She says, “In an era of fake news, high quality journalism has never been so important. The RTS Television Journalism Awards seek to recognise the best in news and current affairs reporting. I am delighted to be the new Chair and look forward to celebrating the achievements of the many highly talented and dedicated people in the industry.”

All entries must be submitted using the RTS Online Awards Entry System by Friday 1 December 2017. All entries must have been first transmitted on any platform in the UK or made available through a website between 16 November 2016 and 15 November 2017. The Awards will be presented on Wednesday 28 February 2018 at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
