Maverick Television has been commissioned in partnership with The Rural Media Company, to produce 72 short films to be shown as part of Channel 4’s award-winning Random Acts strand, all of which will be fully funded by Arts Council England.
The films are to be made out of Maverick’s production offices in Birmingham and this will form, along with a range of additional partners, the Random Acts Network Centre for the Midlands. The partnership will be in place for the next three years, and seeks to identify young film makers (aged 16-24) to produce 24 short films a year.
Random Acts was established in 2011 as Channel 4’s platform for short arts films. The creation of the Network Centres and the boosted partnership with Arts Council England is part of a major expansion of the project – at the same time, the channel is also launching a new TV show to showcase the shorts, revamping the website and has appointed an editor to oversee the strand.
