It was 50 years ago today….. 1964 – The Year The Swinging Sixties Really Began

Posted on 13 February 2014

Creative Networks welcomes Steve Millward, broadcaster, journalist and author of From Blues To Rock – An Analytical History Of Pop Music (with David Hatch) and Changing Times: Music And Politics In 1964. His new book Different Tracks: Music And Politics In 1970 is out in late 2014.

1964 was when the swinging sixties really began. Youth culture dominated the media and the spirit of optimism was ubiquitous. CHANGING TIMES presents a clear and detailed picture of the many personalities, events and trends that made this year so remarkable. It’s more than just a chronological survey, Steve makes the connections between music and politics and links them to the wider world of art, film, fashion, sport, science and technology.

Such was the surge in energy, flair and imagination that any innovation, perceived or real, seemed to stimulate another, often across disciplines. Times were changing: it was the start of an era in which anything seemed possible.

Creative Networks brings together all parties involved in screen and sound media in the West Midlands, promoting both successful business development and collaboration.
