Help shape the new Broadcast Apprenticeship Standard for TV and Radio

Posted on 23 July 2015

Do you want to see better talent joining your industry? Would you like to help refine the definitive Standard for skills and knowledge for Broadcast Production Assistants in TV & Radio?

Following the Richard Review and subsequent Future of Apprenticeships in England: Implementation Plan published in October 2013, Creative Skillset is working with broadcaster ‘Trailblazer’ employers and others to develop the Broadcast Production Assistant Apprenticeship Standard.

It has been a challenge to get such a wide-ranging role distilled into three pages (as required), but the current draft has been endorsed by the Broadcast Employer Working Group – including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Resource Productions, Bauer Media, RIG, All Spring Media and Maverick Television. It focuses on a proposed Apprenticeship Standard (Level 3) that will lead to a variety of roles in Broadcast Production, including Production Management Assistant, Runner, Researcher, Broadcast Assistant and Production Secretary.

The consultation will be running from now until Friday 7 August 2015. You are invited to endorse the draft Standard, or suggest new or different clauses – reflecting your experience and current role to help us determine whether the draft truly reflects industry best practice.

How can I get involved?

Simply download the Broadcast Production Assistant Standard, then email or call 020 7713 9870 with your feedback.

Please note: There is currently a separate Online Production Standard, although both groups acknowledge that Standards for online and broadcast may converge in the next few years.
