Guiding Lights mentoring scheme

Posted on 15 October 2012

Guiding Lights is the UK film industry’s leading mentoring programme. Aimed at writers, directors and producers already actively developing a career in features, it provides support through high-level mentoring, complemented by a range of training and networking activities.

First launched in 2006, Guiding Lights has created 88 mentorships between promising film talent and some of the industry’s most prominent names. Past mentors include Danny Boyle, Barbara Broccoli, Sam Mendes, Julian Fellowes, Paul Greengrass, Alex Garland, Abi Morgan and Kenneth Branagh. To read more about the individuals previously involved, please see the Mentors & Mentees section.

Following four successful rounds of the scheme, they are again looking for 12 emerging screenwriters, directors and producers to match with top industry talent. Successful applicants will benefit from 9 months of one-to-one mentor support, and participation in the other aspects of the programme.

Guiding Lights is run by Lighthouse, and majority funded by the Creative Skillset Film Skills Fund as part of ‘A Bigger Future 2’, the UK film skills strategy. The Creative Skillset Film Skills Fund is supported by the National Lottery through the BFI and the film industry through the Skills Investment Fund.
