Current Commissioning Spree

Posted on 16 June 2011

Current (Virgin 155/ Sky 183) is currently in its final commissioning round of the year and specifically want to greenlight shows by mid-July which will TX this year. We are also looking for next year’s big hits.

Current is proud to commission the best emerging factual talent, both on and off screen, so we want to hear from indies of all sizes who can turn small budgets into big ideas, as well as from inspiring, intelligent new presenters and authors who bring genuine smarts to the table.

We are looking for 30’ and 60’ factual series, one-offs and formats that have the potential to be brand-defining and attract a large UK audience of smart 25-44 year olds.

Current shows are intelligent, innovative, spark discussion and tap into the issues directly affecting our UK audience. Titles and concepts that leap off the EPG are a must, as is a surprising and engaging way into the subject.

We are looking for:

•Intelligent, noisy one-offs that bring exciting insight into Modern Britain such as Britain’s Happy Hookers.

•Series and features that feel authentic in the way they tackle important issues such as the On… series.

•Inexpensive, quick to make fact ent formats that are entertaining and have something powerful to say, such as What Did I Do Last Night? which tackled binge drinking in new way.

•Quick turnaround, high-volume formats that make use of our small studio space such as the Tim Shaw & … series.

•Shows that use multiplatform effectively to engage and excite our audience.

•Topicality but not ideas pegged to specific events or dates. Ask yourself – ‘will this still be relevant in a year’s time?’

•Ideas that sell themselves and generate their own PR so a UK link or focus is essential.

We are also developing ideas in-house and want to match our ideas with the best new producers so please get in touch and introduce yourself or your company.

Please email pitches to Lina Prestwood – we aim to respond to all pitches or emails within the week.
