Posted on 8 December 2017

The Royal Television Society (RTS) Midlands Centre has announced the appointment of Caren Davies as its new Chair.

Davies is a Senior Head of Communications for the BBC, looking after the BBC’s communications across England including English Regions (local radio and regional TV), Sport, Children’s, Learning, 5 live, BBC Breakfast and BBC Birmingham, BBC Bristol and BBC North.

Davies succeeds out-going Chair, Isabel Clarke, who will stay on as a committee member.

Theresa Wise, RTS CEO, said: “It has been my privilege to work with Isabel over the last four years. She has helped to build morale and pride in the Midlands Centre with a quiet but heartfelt energy. Under her leadership, the RTS has built strong relationships with children who have a potential interest in the television industry – through a workshop programme in schools, many students have been recognized through the RTS Midlands Student Awards and the Centre has held prestigious annual lectures fielding leaders in the Television Industry.”

Davies takes up the post with immediate effect and said of her appointment: “It’s an honour to take over as Chair of the RTS Midlands Centre. As an educational charity the RTS plays a valuable role in the Midlands TV industry, which is currently undergoing an exciting time of change and growth. I’m looking forward to leading the Committee and working with the industry to showcase our region, celebrate achievements across the midlands with our annual awards and creating a calendar of exciting events throughout the year.”

From Wolverhampton, Davies started her career in the broadcasting industry at Pebble Mill as a Press Officer before becoming Head of Press & Publicity for the Midlands and East looking after regional and network content. After that she moved to London for 10 years where her roles included Communications Manager for Specialist Factual and BBC Four, Head of Communications for Radio 1, 1Xtra, Asian Network, BBC Introducing and Popular Music on TV; and Head of Publicity for The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. She moved back home to the Midlands to take on the Senior Head of Communications role at the BBC in 2014
