Local filmmaker Paul Griffin was recently awarded an official selection for his film “Francis B. Griffin” that was selected out of 700+ global entrants, to screen at the prestigious London Lift-Off Film Festival, the season finale of the Lift-Off Calendar held on the 6th of December in Soho Central London.
The festivals motto is: Look beyond the gloss. Put talent before technology. Something that holds true to the film “Francis B. Griffin”.
The film was voted on by the attending public at screenings running up to Saturday’s finale and was awarded Best Documentary meaning that “Francis B. Griffin” will now be screened at Liverpool, Amsterdam, Los-Angeles, Las Vegas and Tokyo Lift-off festivals through 201, with the ultimate aim to give filmmakers like Paul the best exposure possible as they embark on their continued artistic journeys.
“Francis talks about his wife, how he met and what happened to him when he fell in love, he is honest and hilarious. Everyone who watched it, had it as either their first favourite film or their second. The film never dropped a single point. It is the relating to another person that gives the connection.” London Lift-off 2014 Review
“Receiving this award was completely unexpected and a little overwhelming. I was asked to take part in a Q&A after the ceremony; people seemed genuinely moved by my Grandfather’s story. I was asked why I made the film, I said that I have spent a lot of time listening to Gramps over the years, and have always thought it would be amazing to record his words for posterity and for him to leave some kind of legacy for future family generations. I had no idea the film would have a wider reach than this. I spoke to him the morning after on the phone; he said “Well I never! I just sat and talked about myself for a couple of hours, you made it into a story. Congratulations.” I said, “There is no story without you Gramps.” Paul Griffin
James Bradley Co-Director and Co-Founder of Lift-Off says…
“Getting into any Lift-Off Film Festival is a massive achievement, but winning an actual award at one is even bigger!”
London Lift-Off is part of the Lift-Off International Film Festivals, dedicated to the discovery and development of independent artists in an unbiased environment and free from any commercial pressures. Student films are programmed alongside professional / independent films and every film that is submitted is treated equally and voted on individual merit alone. A large budget and glossy production value means nothing to the folks at Lift-Off – the only focus is great delivery of an honest story.
