In the run up to Barbados Independence day the High Commission is currently screening a number of films from the island. This sees the UK premier of the new film, made in Barbados. “Chrissy” is the touching story of a remarkable little girl who stands strong in the face of tremendous difficulties-a moving, inspirational and uplifting drama about courage, faith, determination and the power of the human spirit to achieve the impossible.
It tells the story of a poverty-stricken 10 year-old girl, Chrissy Wright (Mikaela Harrison) who lives on the rough side of town with a bedridden mother (Sharon Griffith) and two siblings. Living with no running water, no electricity and very little to eat, Chrissy faces discrimination from her peers and teachers at school. What decisions will she make? How will she pull herself and her family out of poverty? Will her relentless pursuit of academic success be enough to get her and her family out of the dumps and into the good life?
